Blue Ocean Strategy

Hi LZ,

After discuss with Chee Ern, I will like to start something we can discuss and crosscheck the understanding of each other.

Let start with a topic. I choose "Blue Ocean Strategy". It is a brand-new Strategic Management Theory stimulated by Professor W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne around 2005.

The backbone of the Theory is creative, value-based marketing and out of competition.
"The "ocean" refers to the market or industry. "Blue oceans" are untapped and uncontested markets, which provide little or no competition for anyone who would dive in, since the markets are not crowded.

Their idea is to do something different from everyone else, producing something that no one has yet seen, thereby creating a "blue ocean". An essential concept is that the innovation (in product, service, or delivery) must raise and create value for the market, while simultaneously reducing or eliminating features or services that are less valued by the current or future market."

Reference:

For my opinion, it is really look like another side from Porter's Competitive Advantage which emphasize on Competition. However, most of the time, they are look like the same.

Porter try to looking to create competitive advantage via Price-marketing, Differentiation, or segment marketing. Another side, Kim and Mauborgne looking forward to new market.

The Red example with Blue

For example, Dell supply-chain. In Red, Dell create a competitive advantage by reduce the length of supply chain lead to lower cost (Cost Leadership), better control and better service (Market Differentiation).

But, it is irrelevant to Blue? I don't think so. It is because Dell revolution act create a new market for PC. By adding Internet as the supply chain component, Dell create a new ONLINE and DIRECT way of selling personal customized PC, which for years, competitor does not tap in.

The Blue example with Red

I got some points on Ikea Furniture and Nitendo DS. However, I will only elaborate on NDS.

Nitendo DS is a design that a gaming console. Not sure where the preliminary concept from, but it bring the way of gaming like Dancing Console to Home Gaming Console. For NDS, electronic gaming is no longer a so-called "not health activities", which it includes gaming concurrent with exercise.

Thus, it create a new market which other competitor does not have. However, can we say NDS does not compete? The answer is most properly NO. NDS is always compete with gaming console from PS, XBox or even PC Games. It is because no matter the conventional electronic gaming market or NDS creative gaming market, they share the overlapped target market.

Are they look the same. Let share some of your opinion here.

Feeling like shit~ but don't worry

Finally i get to update something here. It has been very long time that i don't even log in to blogspot. After scratching my head for few minutes, i get the right password to log in finally.

See the left hand side picture? Ya, that's a baby, a baby with "Kiam Chai Bin". Just want to apologize to my dear friends always keep worrying me, you don't have to. I'm fine, i'm ok, i'll just be back. Ya, although just the same everyday you all might see Kiam Chai Bin that i putting on everyday when a problem comes to me, but actually i do kept thinking and thinking the way to overcome problems.

Indeed, my feeling is like shit today. From the moment, my boss telling me "CE, you're in big trouble", my feeling is like "Holy SHIT~!! not again". Ya, not again, i've been facing problems since few months ago and yet to solve completely. I don't wish to tell more about story on work anymore, it's just tiring, and for this job, i just wearing a mind "ok la, at least i should finish what i should do".

Anyway, the things my boss "told" me today have something which i agree and not agree. All i can do now is just take it as a very tough challenge and try my best, i don't wish to complain anything anymore. Sorry guys, i'll have something nicer about food, nice place and restaurent to share with all of you later on. Just stay tuned.

Last sentense that i wan't to tell you, boss: Thank you very much, at the same time, F*CK you very much too~!!! Don't ever think everything is possible if you're still wearing a stupid logic mind, you might just gone down again to the place where you just going to stand.

Ah Hooi K0, thanks for your advice, i've been thinking whole day long these few days, i've always bear in mind that what you've told me. Thanks and keep in touch~

The Eye on Malaysia

Finally, got myself a drive to KL once again after August 06.

Among these two days, I only got myself enough time for visiting Time Square, Sg Wang, Low Yat, Titiwangsa and Ikea.

Miss u guyz!!

Finally, my first post after leaving Agilent! It's almost a month since I left Agilent. I still could recall vividly the intensive feeling of reluctance especially when I thought of being apart from you guyz and Joanne. Frankly speaking, until now, I still miss you all and the moments when we spent time together for breakfast, lunch, and tea break!
Anyway, we will be back together again when we are ready for business. Do not stop planning and always, get ourselves ready! I hope the spirit of LZ will not fade and our business will become reality.
Well, that's all! All the best to you all and stay happy always!!
Take care!
Ah Ern,
If you think it's not worthy to endure all you are facing right now, have yourself some new plan (you know what I mean) asap! Be more confident! Handle it NICELY k... Good Luck pal!

Is your boss a psycho?

Yes, this is a online quiz, on what type of boss you think you have.

Preety funnyand true in a way! Go check it out guys!!

My results as below -

And i am sure we all know who is the *star* here.

A certain blue badge flat chested donkey with zero hindquarters that is.

Your Boss Isn't Psycho, but Your Boss Stinks

Your boss is probably not mental. Still, your boss is not competent or professional.
You may want to transfer departments or get a new job, before your boss sucks out your soul.

Temptation in Agilent

Finally, we have leaved our footstep in Temptation and done some survey on their food quality and decoration. It is pity that our langzhais’s president can not join us today and future as well. Thus, we have taken some pictures to let him ‘feel’ the delicious of the food (actually we all agree that the food is normal but the sofa is comfortable.) HahaJ

Since the first day Temptation started its business (or early?) we already said will go and try their food. We are admire the environment and the decoration of the restaurant (erm…can we call it a restaurant?) especially a restaurant in a factory. Of course, the number of customers they have every day as well. So, let us look at the decoration of Temptation before the foods.

The view of counter.

The front view of Temptation.

Actually we went there twice just can have our lunch there because of the tables are limited and reserved by others. So our LZ restaurant has to consider this weakness for a small restaurant. Here are the foods we ordered and Temptation is providing 6 choices for set lunch.

The ice lemon tea comes with the set. For me the taste is better than redbox's ice lemon tea. So I’ll say it is not bad. Ah Ern din't even know how to poke the straw into the drink. Haha

In the whole meal, I think the mushroom soup is the best among other. Jermayne said the taste is exactly like Campbell soup and nice.

Fish and Chip, cost RM11.90 per set. There is a good thing having meal in Temptation here because the price no ++, all the price here are Nett price.

Grill Chicken. Two pieces grilled chicken meat with black pepper source. The taste? I'll say normal and nothing special. This cost RM 11.90 per set also.

Teriyaki Chicken. Grilled chicken with some fried egg and rice. Anwar not finish the rice because of the rice are hard. But Yen and Chee Ern finished the rice la, so the taste? Imagine yourself. By the way this meal cost RM9.90 per set.

The other 3 choices will be Spaghetti with tomato source (RM 10.90), fried rice (RM 9.90) and Tom Yam noodles (RM9.90). No have the pictures here because we din't ordered. Haha... may be next time if still have chance. But I like the pie coz it look very nice although I never tasted it. Hehe.

Panda Kitchen

Hi people!

It has been a long silent in here...so i thought i just post something to spice it up a little.

Anyway, running in tandem with our long term goals to open a restaurant in the future. I decided to blog on my experience(just to share with you guys) going to this new restaurant ; Panda Kitchen adjacent to Gurney.

The main reason for me blogging this is so that we can all share our ideas on the decoration, special dishes/menu, food presentations and even the flaws and advantage they have, so that we too can emulate the pros and ditch the cons for our own eatery.=)
Along the way, i could have made some errors while reviewing it. Hence, do feel free to feedback on this entry!
Let's get the ball rolling by introducing the concept of this restaurant.
Panda Kitchen basically serves Western & Fusion Food. They have a few parking lots avalaible in their premises and since its a house turned restaurant, its either they rent it or buy it up to set up the restaurant.
(Wont be cheap either way i think as its a single storey bungalow house near Gurney)

I shall let the pictures speak for themselves.=)

First up, the decoration
The white + apple green combination of colours

The ceiling & Lightings - I think this could be a simple DIY stuffs.

The table. I kinda like it...what do you guys think?
Seems easy to maintain- minus the additional hassle of maintaining a table cloth somemore.

Next, the F.O.O.D, we ordered a set dinner which comprises of the below.

Soup of the Day + Drinks (choices given are either coffee or tea only, else the calculations will depend on the type of drinks ordered)

Salad of the Day.

Just a personal opinion, i thought the Thousand Island sauce given is almost negligible!

Rib Eye Steak - with BBQ sauce. There are 4 other types of sauce to choose from - garlic, black pepper, mustard and i forgot the other one (Opppss!) I must admit that i am disappointed to see the size of the steak. (RM22.80)

This is a bit special though, i forgot exactly the name - but its chicken + cheese + a tang of local taste thru the addition of Sambal Udang in it...rather unique and a creative attempt to blend in the ingredients. =) The taste is not bad too, thanks to the aromatic 'sambal udang' but personally, i think its a bit too salty. Other than that, its okay.(RM19.80)

For budget restaurant who offer set meals, i must say this dessert is better than a typical below average jelly offered by most restaurants. The cup is plastic one...so its easier to maintain and doesnt hurt much of the budget.=)

Last but not least, the price. Its about RM47 for both set dinners - which i think is quite expensive for a serving like this.

So, would i come over the second time?

Errrr...i dont think so.

Kerachut Hike

It’s been the most interesting event so far ever held by Lang Zhais. Too bad, Taukeh Ern did not join us but he had gone for buffet instead, beh siu~~~

Heavy breakfast was taken (Shuh Chien heaviest) before we embarked on our journey to conquer Kerachut Beach! Beach? Beach needs to be conquered? Anyway, for those who do not know why… actually it’s a long journey of hiking which usually takes normal people around an hour hike to reach the beach! We shall try to make it half an hour next time…

I have no idea why was Ah Aun so moody?? I guess he got very tired after reaching the beach... hahaha

Anyway, he said he was testing the flash! haha

This is so called the "kiam chai face" which is one of the terms of Lang Zhais. Chee Ern is the pro in showing this face. =(

Men of the day!!

Who's got the biggest ass here? Ah Chien I guess!
By the way, just to let everyone know, she is an ass grabber. For those who have 'KEAT' asses, beware of her!

Yeah! It's the end of our first ever Lang Zhais hike. Aik, where's Ah Beng (ah Peng)?? Oh, she's holding the camera!!!

So Be It.

Just a sudden inspiration to post an entry for today. It consist of a few messages which i would love to convey to certain people and then just move on with it as it is simply not worth wondering and pondering on it any longer.
Perhaps the answer and truth which i so adamantly hold and search for could only be surfaced later.

So be it.

To a certain Ms-Flat-Chested-Donkey-It's-Management-Decision-Dont-U-Dare-Question-Me-Jackass(if she even has any of it),
I'm not playing with you to make people hate you for your attitude or make them like you. I'm just playing with your attitude as truthfully as I know how.

To the RM150 permonth chained dogs which faithfully tag and mute itselves in reluctant acceptance-
I wish you all could see more to life than just the additional RM150. What the heck, even pet shops dont sell puppies/dogs so cheap these days!

To my cherished LangZhais,
Some folks go through life pleased that the glass is half full.

Others spend a lifetime lamenting that it's half-empty.

The truth is: There is a glass with a certain volume of liquid in it.

From there, it's up to you!

So how do u judge the volume of liquid in YOUR glass at this moment?

If your answer is - half empty, then don't fret.

Cuz we will all be taukehs in 5 years time!!! And when we look back at the history of the formation of it - we can all laugh and reminisce of the trials and tribulations working under one roof here.

And this is the same determination which propels us to break free in order to reach higher aims in our lives.

After all, difficulties are meant to rouse and not discourage.

The human spirit is to grow by conflict.

Also, thank you for spicing up my working life with all the nonsense jokes, non-stop laughter, business knowlege sharing and most importantly, by simply being there despite everything.

I still remember this kind gesture from you guys.

Thanks!

To myself,

Courage is the discovery of knowing that you may not win,

and trying when you know you can lose.

How true!!!

P/S- CH, its now ur turn to write something liao =P

Today Onwards

From today onwards, after a ‘sincere’ conversation and after taking the ‘sincere’ advice from our outsource employee’s ‘supervisor’, I have committed and swear to myself on the following:

I will not again let the other find something to criticize me on my work by saying that this all is for my own good with a fake smile.
I will not surfing internet for nonsense during working hours unless there is useful for my future.
I will protect myself by learning everything related to my work and do extra to shut ‘someone’ or a stupid animal’s mouth.
I will go for breakfast as the stupid animal did and tea if langzhais are going.
I will not renew my contact but I will stay as long as possible and do my best to help my future mentor (or she help me?) who is just like angel (current mentor al so not bad la, hahaJ) until I found a new job.
I will not let an animal to influence my mood because that made me feel stupid for angry an animal and not worth for my cells which are drying because of that.
I will enjoy my working life with my lovely (or crazy?) colleagues as there will not more than 8 months time with them (wish I am not the last one to leave).

Finally, I shall thank to the donkey for wake me up and made me cleared that what I shall do next. And most important is she given me the idea to update this blog so that no need chase by langzhai and curse me because of I am not update blog. Haha J. Wish me find a better job soon as there is the only thing I desire most.

P/S- This entry is written by TTY and posted using LangZhai pseudonym as there was some complications signing in at Blogger.

Do you Remember?

Really cannot believe on it. I have been working here for 13 months.

Why 13 months is so special? Why not 12 months which make it a year?

It is because I do remember when I just come into the organization; there are a lot of things that I never came across before.

I do remember there is a so-called “Layman” explained to me professionally, and I simply believe on him.
I do remember that was my first time to actually communicate with people from other ethnics and races, after 20 years of Mandarins-oriented Education.
I do remember I had my lunch alone after the third day, as my senior always prepared her lunchbox.
I do remember I received my first month salary, very suffering because I almost contribute all in loan repayment and computer repair.
I do remember a diligent Malay colleague kept on come to me everyday, and shown his intention to be my friends.
I do remember being scored by client even though you had the stand, but your superior stepped your back instead of helping you.
I do remember a Gang of us stay after work, and did not receive any reward and recognition.
I do remember a Speak-only Guy always complained his unsatisfaction, and sometimes I was thinking am I too.
I do remember 4 of the Gila-but-Pretty female Colleagues, taught me many things regarding work, with the intention to reduce their workload. Now, only One of them still appear in front of my eyes.
I do remember the Lady with knife, previously smile like flower.
I do remember these Langzhais previously very silent one, but now Gila Gang always with Gila Ideas.

I do remember… remember…

Do all of you remember what had been happened…?

Finally is over~

I can't get myself for a sleep tonight. I've been struggling for the work loads and MC prepared for entired week. Whenever i talked with Cheong Hooi, Susan and langzhai members, i never stop complaining about the MC things which is too much additional for me. My feeling changed after the annual dinner.

Honestly, i hope that this annual dinner is not gonna end, because suddenly i get the feeling of what i've never had since few years ago. I feel that i found some true friends here... When i start working for this job, i tell myself, i'm not going to entertain any "friends" as true friends.. Somehow, my thought is wrong... When i step into the dinner ballroom for the preparation and rehearsal, i was like shock ~! I was amazed with the environment that the commitee actually has turned a sampah room to a simple but highclass room. You'll agree with me if you get to see the original look for the ballroom.

At this moment, i feel everyone has done a very good job and they really put a lot of effort to do this... for me, i will never make it ... Moving to 8 p.m, the show has just started, i'm getting nervous, i thought i was very confident and able to control the environment by giving a lot of cheers for the audience, but my mind is empty at this moment, somehow Arlene always stands up to make the situation back to the normal one... Maybe you guys never realise i saying something wrong that day, but for myself, i actually realise i made a lot of mistake and confusing other ppl as well, and this is why you can see "D" has been called to the stage for so many times....haha.

I was confusing, i just tried to throw whatever words i can. At this moment, the pictures infront of my eyes suddenly going slow motion just like the "matrix" effect, i realized Arlene has done a very great job in cheering up the audience, i asked myself, if i looked at her without any ideas to say and she look at me then i'm finished, but she did keep talking. For Susan, she is the key person for the annual dinner and busy for all the time. she dont even have her own time to take her own meal, and she has to pick the food for me... After i see the food, i have no appetite to eat, i feel guilty with no doing a great job. However, Kok Aun and Anwar are also busy around to take care the PA system, they're doing very very well for controlling the PA system too but the system is too sucks and bring a lot of trouble for them...

Everyone is just so hardwork and doing well, but all i have to do is just use my mouth to speak... But, why i can't do it well?? I'm not blaming myself but just have some doubt of why people can do so well, and i screw up some portion, maybe most of the people never realise that... and the story in my mind keep bla bla bla....

Although i've made some mistake on the stage, but after the show, everyone keep encouraging me, i was very touched, like what susan has told me "you've done a very great job" and cheong hooi "Although you're nervous but you have a good experience". Yes, this is a very good experience for me indeed. Nothing is more scarier than demise..

I've learnt some lesson after the Annual dinner, i tell myself "Chee Ern, don't just keep complaining, whenever people assign something for you to do, take it as a chance, FOCUS and PREPARE well just for your own portion. Be happy and cheerful all the time whenever any problems i faced. Don't be scare, because nothing is worst than the end of the day"

Once again, i told myself "Don't ever think of suffer when somebody is working harder and more suffer than you". There's a small portion that i mentioned in my speech, "ya, my friends are very helpful people." without "pressing my heart" to say it.

Lastly, for the talk at starbuck, i feel very very happy, thanks to all my friends and commitees. You guys are crazy...haha (Additional = thanks to my gf as well and sorry that i've not much time to spend with you for the entire week)

Hey, post something lah!! This blog is getting boring already!

Hey It's been a long hiatus since our previous post. We don't seem to be enthusiatic anymore. Do we??
We had gone for 3 badminton sessions so far. Not too bad for the 1st time, while for the 2nd time, bloody Chee Ern and Anwar didn’t turn up and we were informed last minute. So beh siu!! 3rd time pula, we had Tze Yunn not able to make it. Again, very beh siu!! Anyway, we had minimum 8 people turned up at least for each of the sessions. Not too bad lar… This week around, no activity has been planned so far as the courts have been fully reserved. Guys, we’re slow in booking court this week, let’s book it ASAP for the subsequent week. I was thinking if we should organize a hiking on this Sunday morning or in future during our weekend. Please let me know if any of you have any input.

Well, this is one of the pictures taken during Agilent Team Building last Friday in which we have 5 LZ shareholders with Verrine and Wooi Han.

It's time for Badminton!

Finally we have our 1st event organized for the year 2007. An event, a badminton playing session has been organized by Lang Zhai Gang tomorrow, dated 5th Jan 2007, time 6pm-8pm at N- Park. Court has been reserved; total participants are estimated to be eight for the time being. Even though it’s just a simple session organized ad-hoc, it’s gonna be very meaningful for all langzhais. Photos will be taken and posted in Lang Zhai Blog later, stay tune!

Hopefully, more activities that are meaningful and exciting can be organized more frequently along the way. Perhaps, there will be more people wishing to join our Lang Zhai activities too!
